German luxury automaker BMW has unveiled two of its facelifted models which are to be launched in the coming months.

The models in question are the facelifted 4th gen X5 and 3rd gen X6 SUVs. The pair has received a mid-life update bringing improved looks, engines, and more features than before.

The X5 SUV and X6 coupe SUV are important models in the automaker’s global product lineup as they face competition from SUVs and coupe SUVs of other rival carmakers such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, and Range Rover.

Set to go into production in the month of April this year, the updated X5 SUV and X6 coupe SUV get tweaks to the exterior design, a refurbished interior in line with other newer BMWs along with an updated engine line-up.

The X5 and X6 both get a new-looking grille as part of a mid-life update as well as a reprofiled front bumper. The X5 now sports a slimmer set of LED headlamps than before and redesigned light signature for the LED taillamps. The X5 also features vertical air intakes and a brushed silver effect for the grille and air dam surrounds.

Like the X5, the 2023 X6 also gets slimmer headlights with a new LED light signature and a redesigned bumper. Since the X6 now gets the M Sport package as standard, a gloss black paint extends from the grille onto the reshaped air intakes. The rear of the X6 coupe SUV does not show any sort of visual differences.

The X6 comes equipped with the M Sport package, but the X5 gets xLine design cues as standard for the 2023 model year.

The brand’s latest iDrive curved infotainment display with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and 14.9-inch instrument panel make their way into the cabin of the SUVs.

The interior also gets illuminated by an ambient light strip having 15 configurable colours. Other features also include a large ‘sky lounge’ sunroof illuminated with LED, a head-up display unit with augmented reality functionality, glass-cut control buttons, and a Bowers&Wilkins Diamond surround sound system.

There’s also an optional Driving Assistance Professional Package including a Highway Assistant. With this, drivers may remove their hands from the wheel while running at up to 137 kmph on restricted access roadways. Additionally, the instrument cluster has an assisted view mode that displays the cars that the cameras and sensors in the current and neighbouring lanes have identified.

Talking about the engines, both the X5 and X6 get BMW’s latest generation of six-cylinder & eight-cylinder engines with 48V mild hybrid tech as standard. The 3.0-litre inline six petrol now develops 47 bhp more at 375 bhp while torque is up 70 Nm to 520 Nm – 540 Nm when the mild-hybrid system provides an added boost.

The 3.0-litre diesel meanwhile develops 294 bhp and 670 Nm up from 261 bhp and 620 Nm. Also available in a 4.0-litre petrol V8 developing 523 bhp and 750 Nm in the new M60i variant. All units are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
